Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo - Late January / Early February (5 Minutes)
The BHSS has 10 different breeds of cattle for sale, a 2-day horse sale, over 300 vendors and seminars to encourage livestock producers, horse enthusiasts and spectators to enjoy the 10-day extravaganza.
Lakota Nation Basketball Invitational - Annual Event (5 Minutes)
Thirty-six basketball teams bring 2,500 students to compete head-to-head in this ever-growing tournament. A powwow, cheerleading competition, wrestling competition and art and fashion shows accompany the main tournament to give spectators a variety of activities to enjoy.
Black Hills Powwow - 10/10-12/14 (5 Minutes)
The Black Hills Powwow has become one of the premier American Indian cultural events in the United States, drawing hundreds of dancers, singers, artisans and several thousand guests from across the U.S. and Canada.
Buffalo Roundup - Every September (50 minutes)
Feel the earth tremble as the hooves of more than 1,300 American buffalo pound through the valley. At each Annual Buffalo Roundup, herdsmen on horseback spur the animals over the ridge, down the hill and into corrals for sorting. Watch the entire Custer State Herd pass by, only a few hundred feet from your seat. After they are safely in the corrals, you can watch as the herd is sorted, branded, tested and treated.
Central States Fair - Every August (5 Minutes)
Big name entertainment, rodeos, family activities and more make up the Central States Fair. There is a lot to take in over 10 days, including various craft displays, food exhibits and even a supercross motorcycle race.
Summer Nights - Thursdays During Summer Months (5 Minutes)
The Summer Concert Series at Main Street Square is a FREE concert every Thursday night, from June 5 to Aug. 28, 6 to 9 p.m. The event also features a Kidz Zone with inflatable's, magic shows, games and more. Sturgis Motorcycle Rally - First Week of August (30 Minutes)
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is one of the largest motorcycle gatherings in the world. The event is usually held during the first full week of August. It began in 1938 and was originally held for stunts and races, but has evolved into being a meeting for motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world. It includes a full week of concerts and entertainment.
Rush Hockey - CHL Teams (10 Minutes)
Rush games are the premier sporting event in Rapid City. Come watch our very own Central Hockey League team battle it out on the ice with the region’s finest.
Mount Rushmore’s 75th Anniversary
Completed on October 31, 1941, the sculpture was carved into the side of a granite formation in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It was sculpted by Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln. The sculpture features the heads of four United States presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
